Learning to breastfeed your baby is a new skill. Not only are you learning, but baby is learning as well. Different stages of breastfeeding can come with different challenges. Are you struggling or becoming frustrated when trying to feed your baby? Here are some signs that you would benefit from a lactation consultation:
)Baby is fussy every time you try to breastfeed. When baby is fussy, this causes mom to become frustrated as well. There are many reasons baby may be fussy while trying to breastfeed. Let's get to the bottom of the issue and ease both of your feeding experience.
)Painful or sore nipples. This is one of the top reasons moms give for stopping breastfeeding early. Pain is not a normal symptom with breastfeeding, but can be caused by several factors. Again, getting to the root of the issue is our goal during your lactation consultation.
)You are worried baby is not getting enough when they are breastfeeding. When baby is breastfeeding, you can't see exactly how many ounces they are receiving. This can often cause moms to worry that they aren't producing enough to meet baby's needs. Perceived low milk supply is another main reason moms give for stopping breastfeeding early. During your lactation consultation we can use tools, such as weighted feedings and our clinical skills to determine if your supply is sufficient for baby's needs.
)You are becoming frustrated every time you feed your baby. If breastfeeding is a source of stress, baby will feel that as well. We want your time spent with baby to be a positive bonding experience. The more time you spend loving and cuddling your baby, the better you will both feel.
